What does the word HERO mean to you? Did Gilgamesh seem heroic to you? why, why not? Discuss among yourselves, by blogging and reblogging, why you would or would not classify Gilgamesh as a hero.

Chris.J:
I'm a nerd so this sounds cheesy but i think a hero is someone like Superman, someone who doesn't give in a fight and doesn't back down when someone bigger knocks them to the ground. Now i do not believe that Gilgamesh was a hero. Nothing he did was heroic except killing the bull and that wasn't really heroic. in my opinion he was a bit of a crybaby. because of his friends death he wants to be immortal. that is actually a stupid idea seeing as immortality is a curse not a gift. consider this how would you like to live forever but watch your loved ones die, you try to move on but it happens again and again. then you realize what a mistake it was but you cant take it back.

I like how you think beyond the immediately gratifying concept of eternal life and youth to its less appealing repercussions. Good work.

Evan Lane :
a hero is someone that not just you but someone that everyone can look up too and someone who always will show you the way when you dont know what to do.

Over the past several years I have noticed a bastardization of the formerly specific word ironic. It seems that people now use it in place of coincidental or even to describe completely unrelated occurrences. During a recent baseball…
yes her song is slightly ironic in the best kinda way :)

The word hero to me, means someone who does something helpful to others without expecting anything in return. Such as a volunteer, or firefighters. You know what I mean. There are many selfish people in the world who yes, help people, but only want the recognition. The attention. I do not think that Gilgamesh was heroic. I believe that he was a coward, who was afraid of dying. Although yes, he was a king and he built a wall, what was it all for? I do not believe that he was a hero. I believe he was selfish. He was only seeking eternal life. In fact, it makes me terribly angry to even think of him as being a hero. Though yes, I do think it was "sweet" that he was upset that his friend Enkidu died, that sympathy disappeared quickly when he said he did not want to end up dead like him. Now, I can go on an on, but I simply do not have the time..... Great Responding Question Ms.Pode! really got me thinking about what a hero really is. :
